The Sunday Times has revealed Oxford’s links to the scandal surrounding Matt Hancock.
The Sunday Times has reported that two sources have suggested Gina Coladangelo accompanied Mr Hancock to the G7 meeting which took place at Oxford between the 3rd and 4th of June. The Sunday Times notes this meeting involved an overnight stay in Oxford. It is not clear where Mr Hancock and Ms Coladangelo stayed, but the summit took place four weeks after the kiss captured on tape by The Sun.
The Sunday Times quotes “a cabinet source” as asking: “She went with him to the G7 health ministers’ summit. Did he disclose this to the PM? If it was shown he was shagging on the taxpayer he had to go”.
The Sunday Times also suggests “it may have been a longstanding infatuation”. It notes Mr Hancock and Ms Coladangelo first met as students at Oxford, where they both worked for Oxygen Radio. It is suggested Mr Hancock got a role reading sports news after befriending her. Both read PPE from 1995 to 1998. Mr Hancock also met his future wife Martha at Oxford and the three appear to have been friends ever since.
Ms Coladangelo recalled the pair’s work together on Oxygen Radio for a BBC profile of Mr Hancock last year. She noted he told a “white lie” to the news desk about a rugby match he was supposed to cover. Having overslept, he was unable to make it to Twickenham in time and instead got off the train at Reading. There he found a pub showing the match and went to a phone box at half time to report, pretending he was at Twickenham.
Mr Hancock seems to have repaid Ms Coladangelo for allegedly securing his student radio job, appointing her as a non-executive director at the Department of Health and Social Care. This role reportedly paid £15,000 a year for 15 days of work. Sky News also reported that Ms Coladangelo’s brother had received NHS contracts.
Mr Hancock is now reported to have left his wife for Ms Coladangelo.
