A rainy Saturday morning doesn’t sound like a great way to end an Oxford week – especially since the entirety of the Oxford Blue’s SLT had to pretend they actually preferred celebrating Galentine’s over Valentine’s. Luckily, Flight Club was able to turn our lazy Saturday upside down.

Located on Westgate’s rooftop, it opened only this Michaelmas; all three of us were excited to try out the venue. Top tip, if you don’t want to come 10 minutes late (like both our editors-in-chief did) make sure you ignore Apple Maps and just head up the escalator while enjoying the views on the roof terrace.

We were treated to a selection of alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks on arrival, including delicious cocktails that even our ‘non-drinking’ editor-in-chief heartily enjoyed. Moreover, we also enjoyed the sizable and scrumptious pizza Flight Club provided.

Of course, the best thing about Flight Club was the darts. Even after a cocktail and a half, one of the editors-in-chief was still on top form and won (The Blue has contacted the other editor-in-chief who strenuously denies this allegation). Unlike a traditional dart board, Flight Club takes care of point-scoring and introduces multiple fun games. We were able to play classic darts, where the aim was to score 180 points as quickly as possible. We also played Snakes and Ladders which uses the darts board as a die. Sadly, two out of three of the SLT hit the ‘black mamba’, dragging them all the way to the start, while one plucky editor-in-chief won by landing on the ‘stairway to heaven’. Meanwhile, in ‘Killer’, players must hit their assigned number three times to become a killer. After that the knives are out and they can hit other players’ numbers to try and knock them out of the game. Spoiler alert: some people are more sensitive than others when you try to kill them, but as the old saying goes ‘you win some and you lose some’ (and this editor-in-chief definitely won).

Overall, all three of us had a great time. One member of our SLT loved it so much that he was back just two days later with friends.
