We’re in the classroom chatting,
Everything looks as it should.
No-one even suspects a thing.
I don’t know why they would.
But if they were in my mind,
They would see the monster that I am.
That’s why I stow my true self away,
Sealed and shut like a clam.
Because if they saw the true me,
I don’t think they’d ever understand,
The one that murders children
And buries them deep beneath the sand,
When nobody was looking,
Because it would be so easy to do.
But then their mum would scream in pain
When they came to the child’s “rescue”.
Or perhaps something even smaller,
Like simply hurting myself.
Or maybe wounding my own brother
By pushing over a bookshelf.
They don’t know the side of me
That burns the house down with recurring fires.
Or the fact I’m scared of what I’ll do
If the restraint in me ever tires.
It’s like I’ve been split in two,
Half of me consumed by hate.
But the other half is broken,
And can no longer carry this weight.
