Here we go: The Oxford Blue blind dates Round 2! And friends, in the wise words of the Shrunken Head from Harry Potter, this article is “going to be a BUMPY ride” (again, seriously, you need to get your head out of the gutter…)

As you will find out, this blind date proved to be very disappointing for both parties. It could be said that this was largely a result of both blind daters going into Tap Social with “no expectations” and “very few expectations”. Come on, guys – where’s the optimism?! One of our daters even admitted to The Blue that she had “heard many horror stories” about blind dates…

“Cool” and “confident” were the terms used by our blind daters to describe each other upon first sight. Although, by the sounds of it, the first sighting was about all the date had to offer, as the date was apparently so “awkward” that it ended rather shortly after it began.

In fact, the highlight of the date was described by the Exeterian as being asked, “so, what A-Levels did you do?” (God, I can’t bear it). And the highlight according to the Mansfielder was the fact her date repeated the word “shame” a lot (this was the highlight?! No, seriously, I can’t bear it).

From what I gather, both daters only had one thing in common, which was the kind words for the beer at Tap Social…not so many kind words for each other though, it seems.

So, I’m sure you’ve all been reading in intense anticipation for the final outcome of the blind date…Yeah, no they won’t be seeing each other again. I thought it hilarious that one dater concluded his remarks to The Blue with the comment, “I don’t think we really clicked”… Well, I’d say that was pretty easy to pick up on!

If, like me, you’re hoping for at least one positive outcome from our blind dates this year, stay tuned! And, if you haven’t already, go and give the last date a read.

For those interested in this date’s venue:

An extract from Tap Social: “Located in a former butcher’s shop in The Covered Market’s central courtyard, The Market Tap is a cosy bar, community cafe, and bottle shop. It’s run by award-winning Oxford social enterprise Tap Social Movement, which helps turn lives around by creating training and employment for people from prison. The Market Tap offers 8 independent beers on draught, a curated selection of wines and cocktails, gluten-free and non-alcoholic drinks, and a range of pastries from Tap Social’s bakery Proof Social Bakehouse.

It’s open Sunday to Wednesday 10am – 5pm, and then Thursday to Saturday 10am – 10pm. It hosts live music, DJs, arts and craft sessions, and much more.”
