If you have been at Oxford for a while, you will know about Park End Wednesdays. The weekly university sports night that generates mass crowds across the colleges, all with a shared ambition of seeking a good night out. Due to the recent closure of their prior location (ATIK Oxford), there has been ample gossip amongst students about what would happen to our favourite night out. Recently, Park End confirmed via Instagram their relocation to Bridge for MT24 and have spoken to us about everything they have in store for next year, stating they are “Extremely excited to take the Park End tradition to Bridge and endeavour to continue the Park End legacy of the best student Sports nights for Oxford uni students.” They further claimed that the relocation to Bridge was based on the opinions of the sports teams that frequent Park End. They explored most of the other popular club locations in Oxford but settled on Bridge, primarily choosing it “due to its large capacity” as it “allows all the sports teams to gather in the same venue”.
The organisers state they cannot reveal all the new features they have in store, but we can expect plenty of new and returning favourites. The “heart of Park End for the sports teams”, aka the Tiki room, is moving across the road to the Bridge VIP area: “Sports teams will have EXCLUSIVE entrance still on Park End street via Spirit Bar allowing them to access an exclusive sports room in Spirit Bar – perfect for sports team socials before they enter the new TIKI room or the rest of the club”. This new sports-team-only space is the thing they’re pushing as being the edge Wednesdays will have against normal Bridge Thursdays as we know them. Also, Park End music lovers will be happy to note that “DJ Chris Dukes will be continuing to run the show for Park End next year along with the rest of the DJs at Park End from ATIK”. Although, they do tease that a new DJ will be joining the scene next year – but they insist on keeping this a surprise.
They also tease that new Park End stash will be dropping shortly, including a new version of their iconic rave shades. There will be plenty of Park End Neon signs dotted around the new venue, as well as exclusive branded cups and varied music genres in different rooms. Park End may be relocating, but they want the space to feel just the same, if not better.
The team behind Park End are also trying a new venture with ‘Vinyl Richie’ taking over The Varsity Club on select Tuesdays. This new venture includes them hosting mega bops for various colleges there, so Bridge isn’t the only venue they are exploring this year.
They finish by telling us to “expect plenty more surprises come MT24”. With this new venue change, Park End aims to come back for a new year bigger and better than ever. Question is: will they see you there?
