Oxford University will operate a pop- up vaccination centre on Thursday 20 January, offering a first, second, or booster dose of the Pfizer vaccine.

The centre, which is open to the public as well as staff and students, will be open from 10:00am to 2:00pm at the University Club on Mansfield Road. It will be a walk-in service and no booking is required. Students are encouraged to bring their NHS numbers, if known, and any information of a previous dose overseas.

Boosters are available for those who received their second dose more than three months ago. You must wait 28 days to receive a vaccine after testing positive for COVID-19. Anyone over the age of 16 is eligible for a first, second, or a booster dose. Further information regarding vaccinations and testing can be found on the university’s website.

The news follows a recent update to university mask and testing guidance, as well as high infection rates in Oxford, with 281 people testing positive for COVID-19 on 18 January. Over 82 percent of people in Oxfordshire have had a first vaccine, but just 62 percent are fully vaccinated. Despite concerns about the Omicron variant, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) estimates that a booster dose is 70-75 percent effective in the period after vaccination.
