Hello! This term I will be exploring the beauty of the ordinary, everyday things in Oxford that are often easy to forget about in the crazy rush of our work lives. With such an intense academic atmosphere, I think it’s important to actively engage in things outside of our degrees, whether that be a club or society, or just a personal routine or fun hobby that pulls us through. I will be interviewing various different people and sharing with you the different ways they engage with life outside of assignments and deadlines, with the hope of inspiring you a little and giving you some new ideas!

Hi guys, my name is Tom and in my new column “You’re Having A Laugh!” I will be exploring the importance of comedy, its origins and dissecting some of the topical issues surrounding comedy in the 21st century. As my first ever foray into student journalism, I am super excited to start writing on a topic that is close to my heart. I hope my column can bring some light relief and joy into the stressful and relentless Oxford terms as well as allow me to procrastinate doing my chemistry degree!

Hi – for the rest of this term I’ll be looking at how filmmakers have responded to the classical world, doing a light survey of films ranging from the exciting to the truly bizarre. Expect variety, intrigue, and some incredibly suspect creative choices. Spoilers will abound, but I can guarantee it’s worth it. I’m excited to dive deeper into retellings of tragedies from the 60s (Electra, a foreign-language Oscar contender) and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson vehicles that disappeared without a trace – and I can’t wait for people to read it.
