Monday, 2 March

Informative: Prof Alastair Buchan: Talk and Discussion, 5:30 pm, Sutro Room, Trinity College

German Society hosts Alastair Buchan, head of Brexit Strategy of the University of Oxford and Pro-Vice Chancellor, to discuss the implications of Brexit on students.

Listen to the calming music of Beethoven and Vaughan Williams followed with wine and refreshments following the concert. £2 at the door.

Tuesday, 3 March

Informative: She Deserves Chocolate- Pulling on the Threads of Liberation, 7:00 pm, Lady Margaret Hall

The Oxford Fair Trade Coalition hosts a panel to discuss the chocolate market- from the cocoa beans to the store shelves. The ethics of the market will be discussed by Fairtrade ambassadors and TV chefs Melissa Helmsley and Allegra McEvedy, Ethical Trade Manager at Oxfam Rachel Wilshaw and others. Register here.

Chill: Meet the Poet Reading with Galina Rymbu and Helena Kernan, 5:30 pm, St Edmund’s Hall Chapel

This poetry reading features the work of Russian poet Galina Rymbu and the translator Helena Kernan. This unique event will also discuss translation in literature. Register here.

Informative: Lucid Dreaming, 5:30 pm, Rainolds Corpus Christi College

Learn more about the strange phenomenon of lucid dreaming, where one can control certain parts of a dream. Dr Josie Malinowski of the University of East London will also discuss her research on sleep and dreaming. Free for members of Oxford University Psychology Society, £2 at the door for non-members.

Chill: Film Screening- Dreams (Kurosawa), 7:00 pm, Amersi Lecture Theatre Brasenose College

Oxford University Japan Society and the Brasenose Film Society present Dreams by Akira Kurosawa, inspired by the director’s actual dreams to make for a surreal experience. Free for OUJS members, £2 for non-members at the door.

Thursday, 5 March

Informative: Can a Person be Engineered? 5:15 pm, Lincoln College

Professors from the biophysics department will discuss the advancements and limits in genetic engineering, in addition to its ethical implications. Register here.

The Oxford Imps, a local improv comedy troupe, will perform a historical musical on the spot. It may not help you study for a history exam, but it surely will be entertaining. Tickets £8 here.

Friday, 6 March

Informative: Exiled: The Plight of Rohingya Muslims Screening and Discussion, 5:00 pm, Refugee Studies Centre

A screening of a documentary about the military dictatorship, propaganda, and violence against Rohingya Muslims will be followed by a discussion with Shahida Tulaganova, a former news and current affairs reporter for the BBC.
