Week 2 is upon us and so are more exciting events in Oxford. We’ve put together this list to help you find any event for any day and any mood; whether you feel like learning more, need a chill evening, or a night to dance the stress away, we hope there’s something here for you.

Monday, 27 January

Informative: The State of the Climate Panel, Jesus College, 6:45 pm .

The panel will be discussing the implications of Brexit on climate change policy and looks back at the progress of climate action in the past year. Free entry.

Chill: Hopeful Poetry For the New Decade, Merton College JCR, 7:00 pm .

Drinks, poems, and optimism are provided at this event. Bring your own poems or ones written by your favourite poet to start Week 2 on a positive note. Free entry.

Night out: Broke Mondays Frat Party, ATIK Oxford, 10:00 pm.

Cheap drinks, beer pong, and a candy shop with free popcorn, candy floss, and lollipops are the key features in this frat party. Admission starts from £1.

Tuesday, 28 January

Informative: Entrepreneurship in Africa – a townhall discussion, Oxford Foundry, 7:00 pm.

Billed as an evening of inspiring conversations with leading African entrepreneurs, you learn all about how to build a business on the world’s second largest continent. Followed by a networking reception with drinks and canapés. Book your free tickets here.

Chill: The Russian Samovar Circle, Balliol College, 5:00 pm.

Traditional Russian sweets and tea will be featured for a nice evening treat. £2 for members of Russian Club, £5 for non-members.

Night out: Tuesday Skittles, Plush Lounge, 11:00 pm.

Oxford Queer Student night at Plush always includes non-stop dancing and cheap drinks. Join Oxford University LGBTQ Society at Christ Church beforehand at 8:30 for free drink wristbands and to meet other LGBTQ+ students before heading to Plush. Admission £4.

Wednesday, 29 January

Informative: Can Myths Explain Brexit? St John’s College, 7:00 pm.

The end of the month is approaching and so is the current stage of the Brexit saga. Professor Kalypso Nikolaidis will try to work through the momentous decision on June 23rd through myths. Free entry.

Chill: Film Screening- Tampopo, Brasenose College Stocker Room, 7:00 pm.

Oxford Japan Society presents Tampopo, a funny story about the founding of a ramen shop. Foodies encouraged to watch. Free entry.

Night out: Furry Mic feat Daniel Ma’ani, Leon Williams and Howlin Horton, Mad Hatter, 8:30 pm.

Enjoy music, a drink, and for all the musicians out there, you can sign up to perform at 8:15.

Thursday, 30 January

Informative: Art and the Brain, St. Hilda’s College, 5:00 pm.

Professor Chrysalina Antoniades, Dr. Richard Jolley, and Dr. James Grants will talk about how art influences the brain and how the brain influences art.

Chill: Merrily We Roll Along, Oxford Playhouse, 2:30 pm.

Enjoy this musical featuring the perils and glamour of American show business. Get tickets here from £10. The show runs from Jan 29th to Feb 1st.

Night out: Bhangra Dance Class, Kloppenburg Room, Cohen Quadrangle, 6:30 pm.

The Oxford South Asian Arts Society is running this exciting event full of dancing and opportunities to try something new. Free entry.

Friday, 31 January

Informative: Proud to be European, Oxford Town Hall, 7:15 pm.

Oxford’s pro-European organisations celebrate nearly 50 years of EU membership as we say farewell to the EU. This tour features Free entry.

Chill: Ashmolean After Hours, Ashmolean Museum, 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm.

Join the Uncomfortable Ashmolean tour at 6:00 pm and learn about aspects of the museum’s history that frequently go unaddressed, such as colonialism, slavery, and racism. You’re able to stick around after the tour and meander through the rest of the museum. There will be music and talks in addition to the regular exhibits. Free entry.

Night out: Black Parade: 2000s Emo Anthems, O2 Academy, 11:00 pm.

Relive your emo phase with hits from Paramore, Jimmy Eat World, My Chemical Romance and more. Side bangs and eyeliner encouraged.

Saturday, 1 February

Informative: Sense and Synesthesia, St Edmund Hall, 2:00 pm.

Find out how and why people associate colour and taste with words and sounds in this talk with Professor Julia Simner, Professor Michael Banissy, and Professor Charles Spence. Drinks will be served after the talk. Free entry.

Chill: Oxford Beethoven Festival, Sheldonian Theatre, 7:30-10:00 pm.

Sit back, relax, and take in T.S. Eliot’s Four Quartets and Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 15 in A minor, Op. 132 in the beautiful Sheldonian Theatre. Student tickets range from £20-£40 and can be bought here.

Night out: HAAi at Simple, The Bullingdon, 11:00 pm.

HAAi performs her popular eclectic music outside of her usual setting at the London club Phonox.

Sunday, 2 February

Informative: TEDxOxford 2020 Conference, Oxford New Theatre, 10:30 am to 5:00 pm.

Find out what new ideas are worth spreading in this TEDx conference. The theme is “A World Unbound” and will feature talks about how world-leading figures in a wide range of fields and breaking down boundaries.

Chill: Coco Movie Screening, Oxford Brookes Union, 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm

The endearing Disney favourite Coco comes to Oxford Brookes. Beautiful colours and music alongside a moving storyline make it a great choice for a study break. Free and open to all.

Night out: Womxn and NB DJ Workshop with the Spinsters, 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

It’s a Sunday night so nothing crazy, but take a break from reading and learn how to DJ, a skill that will make your future nights out even better.
